The commencement of work to transform the former Avondale Nursing Home in Culmore into a state of the art 61-bedroom care home for the elderly has been welcomed by SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins.
Cllr Dobbins said: “In a week when we’ve learned that some care homes in the North West were given a reprieve after being earmarked for closure, I am delighted to be able to say that Avondale will compliment the existing services that we have here in the city.
“We have a duty of care to our older people, and providing a proper level of care for them in the right surroundings means that their families as a result feel more at ease.
“I know that from personal experience it is difficult thinking about what the best way forward is for elderly relatives and I believe that Dr McDonald’s care home in Omagh is a prime example of the owners attention to detail and this will be a new addition to the local community.”
