The granting of a “temporary” eight-week full operating licence to Translink the provision of bus service to the Culmore area Derry has been welcomed by Cllr Tony Hassan.
The Sinn Féin transport spokesperson the partyin Derry and Donegal had been working to ensure all possible avenues were explored for the Derry-Donegal service following the closure of the Lough Swilly bus company.
Cllr Hassan said: “This is a good decision meaning that the people of Culmore will finally be getting a full bus service for the area. It is hoped that this temporary eight week licence can be made permanent.
“The campaign and lobbying for a bus service in Culmore had been going on for as long as I have been in Derry City Council.
“Back in January it was announced Translink got a licence for a limited service, now with being granted this new licence it will greatly enhance public transport provision for thousands of people living in the area.
“I would also like to assure people that Sinn Féin in Derry and Donegal have been working to ensure that all possible avenues are explored for the Derry-Donegal services with the pending closure of the Lough Swilly bus company.”
Cllr Hassan concluded: “This has caused great concern for people living in many rural areas and who would travel between Derry and Donegal on a regular basis.”
