Carrick Rangers 1 Institute 2
A late Stephen O’Flynn goal against Carrick Rangers has ensured the race for the Championship title will go down to the last day of the season.
With table toppers Bangor leading Lisburn Distillery 2-0, Paul Kee’s side will go into their final game against lowly Limavady United on Saturday knowing a win or a draw could seal the title.
Bangor look set to go back to the top of the table later tonight – their game kicked off an hour later – and go into Saturday’s clashes with a single point advantage.
Which means, if they fail to win Institute could snatch the title from them with a victory against their North West neighbours.
Against Carrick, Institute had the better chances of the first half, Walsh hitting the crossbar from 30 yards while the Rangers keeper pulled of a two good saves, one from a free kick following a foul on O’Flynn and from a 25 shot from the Cork man.
Carrick went ahead when Roy found the bottom corner of the net with a low drive in 58 minutes.
McCrudden drew Institute level with 15 minutes to go when he curled a wonderful effort to the top corner.
Michael Doherty kept Institute on level terms with two brilliant saves before former Derry City forward O’Flynn drilled to the bottom corner to seal a victory that secures a promotion play-off against Ards.
