The change to the infrastructure of Derry’s Bogside has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly.
Work in transforming the area began over three years ago, beginning at Lisfannon Park.
Cllr Kelly said: “We have now seen the introduction of new footpaths and street lighting in the surrounding area, road safety measures, revamp of Fahan Street steps and new parking bays for tourist buses along Rossville Street.
“This work was badly needed particularly the major resurfacing work that has just been completed on what is one of the busiest road in the city at Westland Street.”
Cllr Kelly concluded: “As well as being good news for residents, this area also sees a heavy footfall by tourists visiting the Bogside area to see the local monuments, Museum of Free Derry, learn about the history of the place and then continue into the city centre and accessing Derry’s Walls.”
