The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire has slipped back to second place on day five of race 11 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race from San Francisco to Panama.
The Derry Clipper had held a narrow lead but a tactical shift has seen GREAT Britain take the lead with Sean McCarter’s crew neck-and-neck with Team Garmin.
With 1,000 miles of racing completed, the entire fleet of 12 yachts is separated by only 50 mile.
However, the Derry crew a very much in the race with skipper McCarter describing racing as “tight as an over-tuned banjo string.”
He added: “The crew have done a superb job of keeping the boat moving at 100 percent and fending off Team Garmin, OneDLL and Invest Africa.”
