BBC Television’s hugely successful talent show, The Voice UK, is coming to Derry next week in the hope of finding the next big star.
One of the show’s producers will be in the city on Monday next to hold “initial pre-auditions” and hopefully meet the winner of its fourth series who will walk away with a major record deal with label giant Universal.
Producer Warren Atkins said the “meet and greet” – taking place from 4.00pm to 7.00pm in the Everglades Hotel on Monday next, 28 April – was where Derry schoolgirl Rachael O’Connor began her “amazing journey.”
Rachael, as we all know, went on to star in live shows of the last series.
Warren added: “I’m on the hunt for people with a genuinely fantastic voice to take part in our fourth series.
“We are looking for either soloists or duos who believe that they have what it takes to become the next big thing.
“The Voice UK is the most successful new entertainment series launch on BBC One in over a decade.
“The first series had a consolidated series average of 9.2 million (38.5% share) viewers and peaked at 10.6 million during Series 3.
“The idea of my visit is to meet as many talented people as possible who might be interested in our new series.
“The idea is a short meet and greet where I would have a chat about the show and hear each person sing one song.”
So, if you are 16 years of age or older on 23 June next and have the right to live and work in Britain for over 20 hours per week and believe you have the “fantastic voice” Warren is looking for, go along to the Everglades on Hotel on Monday – Warren said he would be delighted to meet you.
