Four people were rescued from the River Foyle by Foyle Search and Rescue during the first three months of this year, figures released by the charity show.
From January to March this year, Foyle Search and Rescue responded to 21 emergency calls where three people were rescued from the water and 10 removed from the railings.
There where 27 “duty night” incidents where one person was taken from the water and 10 removed from the railings.
Two bodies were recovered during the same period.
Last year, Foyle Search and Rescue attended a total of 195 incidents in the River Foyle, which included the rescue of 12 people and 66 “causes for concern” being led to places of safety for help. FS&R also recovered seven bodies from the river.
Meanwhile, sponsorship forms are now available for the two bridges sponsored walk taking place on Sunday, 11 May next in aid of the charity.
Forms area available at Ebrington Post Office (Gees) on Rossdowney Road, Smyths Toy Store on Strand Road, Popular Design on John Street and the charity’s base in Prehen.
The walk will leave St Columb’s Park House in the Waterside at 1.00pm.
