Local athlete Chris McGuinness produced a personal best time to win today’s Airtricity 10 mile road race held in Derry.
The Foyle Valley runner broke the tape in 55 minutes 47 seconds to clinch first place ahead of Ciaran McGonagle, of the Rosses club in Donegal, who narrowly pipped Foyle Valley’s Pius McIntyre for second spot.
City of Derry Spartan Mark Mullan continued his impressive form to clinch fourth place.
Speaking to Derry Daily, Chris said he was delighted with his performance and his time.
He said: “It is a great course and a great set up. It is a personal best for me which I am absolutely delighted with and, hopefully, it will carry me into the marathon.”
Clare McGuigan, from Lifford AC, won the ladies’ race ahead of City of Derry Spartan Ann Paul with Evelyn McGinley, of Inishowen AC, in third spot.
The race was the final warm up event for the upcoming Walled City Marathon on 1 June.
Over 400 runners took to the start line for the 10 mile course which featured most of the 26.2 mile marathon route.
