Over 60 pairs were looking to qualify for the matchplay stage of the very popular Jock Balmer Competition at City of Derry yesterday.
Sixteen places were available, and the father and son combination of Mickey (20) and Peter Lynch (24) had a massive total of 50 points to take the top spot by a clear three points.
Peter, in fact, recorded scores at every hole for a personal nett 63 which has been duly noted by the handicap committee.
Second place, courtesy of a favourable tie break going their way, was the pairing of Alan Montgomery (21) and Jim McGeady (26).
They had a mammoth 27 points of their 47 points total on the back nine.
Dermot Canning (6) helped by Greg Oates (20) finished in third place with their 47 points, fading a little after their opening nine of 25 points.
The cut off mark on the day was 43 points with only two pairs getting through on that mark.
The draw for the matchplay stages will be published shortly with dates etc. and will be displayed on the locker room noticeboard .
