Details of the single lane closure to be reintroduced at the £400,000 Environmental Improvement Scheme in Bridge Street, Strabane, have been announced by the Department of Regional Development (DRD).
The first phase, which started at the end of this month, caused outrage in the town as a result of the traffic congestion.
The second phase, to begin in two weeks time, will also see Bridge Street reduced to a single lane for traffic heading out of the town for a period of seven weeks.
The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of June.
A spokesperson said: “DRD has carefully reprogrammed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public but, regrettably, this partial closure is now unavoidable.
Motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys in the area.
“DRD will continue to monitor the impact the temporary traffic management measures are having on the town centre traffic and will make adjustments to those measures where it proves practical to do so.
A diversion route will be signposted via B72 Market Street, B72 Abercorn Square, B72 Railway Street, A5 Bradley Way and B72 Bradley Way.
“As with all improvements of this type the planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. DRD will keep the public informed of any change.”
