St Joseph’s Boys defeated fellow Derry school, St Columb’s College, 4-2 to win the Northern Ireland Under-12 Schools Cup played in Ballymena this afternoon.
Cahir McMonagle gave the College the lead but goals from Caolan McLaughlin and Aidan Griffin gave the Creggan boys a 2-1 half-time lead.
McMonagle’s second of the game drew the Buncrana Road boys level after the break but a Steven Burke penalty and a late goal from McLaughlin ended the College challenge.
The win makes up for last year’s disappointment when St Joseph’s lost out in the final to St Malachy’s.
There was disappointment for the girls from Thornhill College who were defeated 4-1 in the Girls Senior Cup Final by Holy Cross College from Strabane, Hannah Ward scoring the Derry girls’ solitary goal.
