Derry City 0 Shamrock Rovers 1
Derry City went down to their third defeat of the season, losing 1-0 to Shamrock Rovers in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash at Brandywell.
The defeat, which drew boos from a section of the home crowd, piles more pressure on City boss Roddy Collins as his side has only won two of their 12 league games played so far.
The Dubliner made a number changes from the City line that started against Bohemians last Friday, bringing in Cormac Burke, Barry McNamee, Tony McNamee and Nathan Boyle in attempt to rectify his side’s lack of goals – City have only found the net on eight occasions in the league.
Derry looked the more threatening in the opening period without really troubling the Rovers goal and went behind in the 34th minute when Gary McCabe gave Gerard Doherty no chance from 30 yards.
The home side should been on level terms five minutes later but Barry McNamee, who was brilliantly picked out by Enda Curran, blasted wide when it looked easier to score.
A double goal-line clearance from a corner by Barry Molloy in the 43rd denied denied Rovers 2-0 half-time lead.
Collins made three changes to the line-up during the second half but created little in front of goal as Rovers held out for a deserved victory.
