A Derry City councillor has been appointed press officer for the Foyle branch of Home Accident Prevention Northern Ireland (HAP).
SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins was proposed and nominated as the new pro at the group’s annual general meeting.
Cllr Dobbins said she was “delighted and honoured” to be elected to the position.
She added: “I have been on the committee since becoming councillor and I have made every effort to highlight the chosen topics through media avenues.
“I am particularly proud to have been a participant in a group who lobbied Stormont regarding the dangers of blind cords.
“We have been able to attain a legislation which ensures manufacturers of window furnishing to be responsible for child safety and prevent strangulation with looped blind cords.”
Cllr Dobbins concluded: “Through HAP we have highlighted the hidden dangers in the home and regularly run competitions in both primary and secondary schools. Through these competitions we raise awareness not only to the children but to their parents also.”
