Derry hurlers bounced back from last week’s heavy defeat by Kerry to beat Down by a single point in a thrilling Christy Ring Cup clash at Owenbeg on a scoreline of 2-16 to 3-12.
The home side, leading at half time by five points on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-04, appeared to be heading for defeat going into injury time at the end of the game a point behind, but scored two late, late points for victory.
A Shane Farren goal kept Derry in the game as Down hit back in the second half and it took late points from Hinphey and man-of-the-match Convery to clinch victory and banish the 32 point hammering by the Kingdom.
