DERRY City legend Peter Hutton is in charge at Brandywell tonight after manager Roddy Collins “left the club by mutual consent.”
The parting of the ways came as Derry City suffered another weekend defeat.
Friday’s home 1-0 reversal to Shamrock Rovers left City with only two wins from the opening 12 Premier Division games amid growing dissatisfaction with Collins.
Derry lie seventh in the table – 12 points behind leaders St Pat’s.
Collins, who signed a one year contract at the start of the season, has been informed by the Brandywell board that his services are no longer required.
A brief statement on the club’s official website says: “The Derry City FC Board of Directors would like to announce that Roddy Collins has left the club by mutual consent.
“Derry City FC with to thank Roddy for his service, and we wish him well for the future.”
The Dubliner, who brought 10 new players to the Brandywell, was continually coming under criticism from the Brandywell faithful with the style of football being played under his tenure.
Attendances at City’s home matches had also dropped considerably.
It is understood assistant manager, Peter Hutton, who joined Collins at Brandywell at the start of the season will take over the managerial role until the end of the season.
In the Cup, holders Sligo Rovers will face Dundalk at Oriel Park while the only other all-Premier Division tie is Limerick’s tussle with Bohemians.
Ties will be played on the weekend ending Sunday, 8 June.
