Funding of £309,800 has been announced for the construction of new premises for the Dunluce Family Centre community organisation in Derry.
The community organisation is currently based in a small housing executive house in Ballymagroarty.
Work on the new premises will include the refurbishment and extension of a vacant building at Shaws Court which had previously been used as a children’s playschool.
The new premises will provide facilities and space for many community services such as childcare, education and training opportunities.
Announcing the funding, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said the new building would also assist in addressing the severe lack of crèche facilities in the area and will enable the Dunluce Family Centre to continue to deliver the much needed Early Intervention and Family support services to the residents of this Neighbourhood Renewal Area.
Dunluce Family Centre chairperson, Karen Friel, said the funding would allow the extension of its childcare provision and offer the parents/carers in the Outer West area a “wrap around service of family support.”
She added: “We are delighted with the news that funding has been secured to provide a much needed service for the area.”
Work is due to commence on site late this summer.
