Richard Hamilton (18) was best of the day at City of Derry in yesterday’s, Open Stableford leading the field from start to finish and recording 37 points.
An unlikely total after starting with a blank on the first but he steadied the ship and settled down to register his first win in a long time.
Simon Swaby (11) was the runner up with his modest 35 points that included a blank at “Aintree,” the toughest hole on the course.
Paul O’Doherty (8) made a worthwhile visit from Greencastle to finish third on a tie break with 34 points.
Purcell team to play Faughan Valley
Meanwhile, George Jackson’s Pierce Purcell team have qualified for the matchplay stages of the competition.
They will play their first round match against Faughan Valley at Foyle Golf Club on a date to be arranged.
