Green-fingered pupils from a Derry school have struck gold at the prestigious 2014 Garden Show Ireland held at Antrim Castle Gardens.
Thirty schools from across the North entered the show’s Scarecrow Wood and Primary Schools’ Edible Garden Container competitions with Rosemount Primary School coming away with the Gold Award in the latter category – bringing home a Bizzy Bees Gardening Kit and trees provided by CAFRE Greenmount College.
Roe Valley Integrated Primary School, from Limavady, was “highly commended” in the Scariest Scarecrow category with their entry “Spooky Serena.”
Nicholas Crawford from sponsors Allianz said: ”We are delighted with the response of Schools from all over the country and it is fantastic to see the fruits of all their hard work. The teachers and the pupils commit a huge amount of time and energy to these activities and it has hopefully engaged and kick started the next generation of budding gardeners.”
