Pupils, staff and parents at three schools in Derry are celebrating today after scooping top business awards.
Students from Belmont House School and Foyleview School took the Young Enterprise Team Programme Company of the Year Award at the prestigious event at Belfast City Hall last night.
The young entrepreneurs with special educational needs were named as North West area Company of the Year in March, and rose above competition from five other companies to take the award.
The students set up the company, named “Foybels,” producing and selling up-cycled clothing and accessories.
Mary Thompson, from Lisneal College in the Waterside, was presented with the Entrepreneur of the Future Award, having led the school’s business through the Company Programme.
She was recognised individually as having displayed great potential to succeed in business in the coming years.
The event was supported by key players in the Northern Ireland business community including InvestNI, Ulster Business School and EY.
Young Enterprise is the leading charity for business education in Northern Ireland, offering young people the chance to start businesses alongside volunteer business mentors from the local business community.
Carol Fitzsimons, Young Enterprise Northern Ireland chief executive, congratuled thew inners.
She said: “We are proud of our 2014 winners and all who have taken part our programmes this year.
“Each of these young people has worked with our volunteers to develop skills in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship that they will take forward as they build their future careers.
“They demonstrate strongly how we can create an entrepreneurial culture, encouraging business start-up as a strong career option.
