Police in the North West have warned pet owners of dog thieves operating in the area.
The warning comes after the PSNI in Limavady received information from the public in relation to the theft of pedigree dogs.
A PSNI spokesperson said police believed crime gangs were marking addresses they believed pedigree dogs were kept at.
The spokesperson added: “This may be done by means of a chalk mark on the fence or the wall of the address.
“Once the addresses have been scouted any member of the group could return and locate the dogs.”
The spokesperson concluded: “So be vigilant should you see any marks on your wall or fence.”
