The Bishop of Derry has appointed a new curate to the parish of Creggan where a priest is currently on “sick leave.”
Fr Daniel McFaul succeeds Fr Dermott Harkin as curate of St Mary’s.
He has been appointed by Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown.
The Creggan parish had been without a priest ever since Fr Harkin was granted leave of absence on health grounds several weeks ago.
Fr McFaul had been ministering in the neighbouring parish of St Eugene’s for the past six years following his ordination.
A spokesperson for St Eugene’s said: “We express our gratitude to Fr Daniel for his six years of service, for his faith, commitment, compassion and pastoral care.
“We thank God for his time among us and assure Fr Daniel of our prayers as he continues his ministry.”
A former joiner and banqueting manager, from Iskaheen in Muff, Co Donegal, Fr McFaul (39) was ordained a deacon in 2006 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Divinity in May the following year.
A past pupil of Scoil Naomh Brid in Muff and Buncrana Technical College (now Crana College), he was ordained to the priesthood in 2008 by the then Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Seamus Hegarty.
