A group of young Derry mums have successfully completed the Western Education and Library Board’s (WELB) Welfare Service School Age Mothers (SAMs) programme.
The delighted mums celebrated completing the programme, held in collaboration with the Women’s Centre in Derry, at the a presentation day.
The aim of the presentation day was to celebrate the successful completion of the SAMs Project, which offers support in education; provides peer support and information about services in the local community and offers practical, emotional and social support to all school age mothers.
The programme entitled ‘self-care improving personal strengths’, incorporated seven sessions facilitated by Tracey Harrison, from the Women’s Centre.
Aileen Lynch, WELB Senior Education Welfare Officer, said the SAMs Presentation Day was a “great success” and demonstrated the importance of personal well-being and its impact on young mothers’ ability to participate in education.
The WELB’s Education Welfare Service thanked Margaret Logue, Director Women’s Centre, for supporting the programme and providing a facilitator and venue.
