Derry City 2 Drogheda United 0
Rory Patterson and Michael Duffy scored the goals as new Derry manager, Peter “Pizza” Hutton, delivered what the City faithful craved – a much-needed win and a valuable three points with a 2-0 win over Drogheda United in the SSE Premier Division at Brandywell last night.
Duffy’s third goal of the season – a fierce shot from an acute angle in the 21st minute – ended a 251 minute goal drought for the Candystripes in the league.
Rory Patterson sealed the points for City when he got on the end of a Patrick McEleney cross in the 65th minute.
The win sees Derry leapfrog Drogheda United and move into sixth spot in the league, ahead of Bray Wanderers on goal difference.
