Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown, will celebrate his first St Columba’s Day Mass in St Columba’s Church, Long Tower, on Monday, 9 June at 7.30pm.
Before the service, the Rosary will be recited in Irish at the Calvary (weather permitting).
After the Mass, the annual procession to the Well will take place after which everyone is invited for refreshments Long Tower Primary School.
The Mass and procession are being held as part of the Columba celebrations which will also feature a Mass at the Brandywell Grotto at 6.00pm this Friday following by a Rosary Procession to Long Tower Church
Pilgrimage to Thornhill this Saturday at 9.00am is being described as a “walk in prayer through the city” stopping at some of the ancient sites of Christianity – St Augustine’s Church, Convent of Mercy and Adoration Chapel in Pump Street, the site of the Holy Well, the site of the old Dominican Priory at Abbey Street, St Columb’s Diocesan College and the Cisterican Convent at Galliagh.
The walk will end at the site in Thornhill where St Columba left Derry on his way to Iona.

A Novena Prayer to St Columba will be recited in St Columba’s Church, Long Tower after all Masses from Sunday to Monday 1-9 June.
A Family Fun Day will take place in the grounds of the Long Tower Primary School on Sunday, 8 June, between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.
