The Minister for Regional Development Danny Kennedy has been invited to Clady to view at first hand the problems large numbers of articulated lorries travelling though the village.
The invite has come from West Tyrone Sinn Fein MLA Michaela Boyle who has question the Minister on how he plans to address the ever-increasing volume of traffic and if he has any plans to introduce weight restrictions along the main street.
Ms Boyle was speaking after she and party colleague Cllr Maoliosa McHugh had been contacted by “many residents” about the large numbers of articulated lorries that travel through the village.
She said: “Clady is a small village with a narrow street leading through it. The residents in the area are worried about the amount of these lorries which are pounding through the village causing damage to roads, traffic jams and also raising safety concerns for people living close to the road side.
“Minister Danny Kennedy has given an undertaking that he will look at the assessment of current traffic movements to see whether any improvements are possible.”
Ms Boyle concluded: “I have also invited him to visit Clady to see for himself the clearly evident impacts caused by this, in order to come up with measures to resolve this issue for the people living in Clady.”
