A Derry man has been elected on to the new look Donegal County Council.
Gerry McMonagle, originally from the Creggan area of Derry, is one of nine Sinn Fein councillors on the 37-member council.
The number of seats on the council has increased as a result of the abolishment of Town Councils including Letterkenny and Buncrana.
Cllr McMonagle made history in June 2011 when he became the first Sinn Fein Mayor of Letterkenny Town Council.
A former political prisoner in the North during the Troubles, he has been living in Letterkenny since 1984.
He said it was a privilege to be Mayor of Letterkenny, a “I have come to love so much.”
