A single point separated Sean McKane (19) and Michael McCullough (15) when the cards in the McFeeley Family sponsored Open Stableford, the first competition in City of Derry’s 42nd Open Week were checked yesterday.
It was McKane whose fabulous 44 points (including a blank at the par five 7th) took the title with McCullough’s 43 points (a winning score on most occasions) securing the second spot.
The winner on the day was ultimately the delight of both players playing well enough to see their handicaps go down and surely that is what the game is all about.
Martin Doherty (17) was another player taking great satisfaction from his third placed 42 points that saw him rewarded with a two shot reduction.
And Alan Duncan (20) having marked two winning scores recently finally got on to the podium himself with a fine 41 points and fourth nett.
Lester Moore (1)was steadiness personified with his gross prize winning 35 points. Paul Maxwell (21) from Foyle took the best visitor’s prize with 37 points.
Prizes for this competition will be presented at 10.00pm tomorrow.
Open Week continues at Prehen with The Samaritans Open today and the Kelly Fuels Open tomorrow.
