A man was remanded in custody when he appeared in court earlier today charged in connection with a knife attack which has left a73-year-old man fighting for his life in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
Lee Mitchell (33), of Windmill Park, Letterkenny was charged with assault causing harm when he appeared at a special sitting of Buncrana District Court.
The charge is in relation to the attack on pensioner Patrick McLaughlin in his home at Convent Road in Carndonagh, Inishowen, on Friday night last.
Mr McLaughlin is being treated in hospital for injuries which Gardai sources described as “life threatening.”
Mitchell was also charged with a burglary at another house at Millbrae in the Inishowen town on the same day.
There was no application for bail.
Mitchell was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison and will appear in court again at Harristown on Friday next.
