MTV-003Confirmation that television music channel MTV is to stage a major concert in Derry later this year is “good news” for the city, the chairperson of Derry City Council’s Development Committee has said.

Work on the event, to be staged in Ebrington Square in September in partnership with Derry City Council, has been ongoing since the extremely successful BBC Radio One’s “One Big Weekend” held at the Waterside venue last May.

Confirming it was planning a “major music event” with MTV in the city, a spokesperson for the City Council said; “Details are expected to be provided shortly.”

Cllr McCallion said she was sure everyone in the city would be pleased to learn about the staging of the concert in the city.

She added: “This is still a work in progress, with the line-up to be confirmed.”

It is estimated almost 98 million households in America alone receive MTV.
