Thirteen new jobs will be created in Derry when DIY retailer Screwfix opens its first store in the city this Thursday.
The opening coincides with the start-up of a new Screwfix outlet in Lurgan, bringing the number of the company’s stores in the North to six, having already opened in Ballymena, Belfast, Newtownabbey and Bangor – all of which trade seven days a week.
The new stores are the latest addition to Screwfix’s rapidly expanding network, which now has more than 340 stores across Britain.
The company has an established reputation as Britain’s largest direct and online supplier of trade tools, and is known as “where the trade buys.”
Andrew Livingston, Screwfix chief executive, said the company was delighted to be launching more stores in Northern Ireland and serving more customers.
He added: “We’ve had a great few months with our first four stores and have been warmly welcomed by the local customers.
“We have decided to increase our investment in the area to give even more tradesmen, handymen and serious DIYers the chance to purchase products at a time and place that suits them through a growing store network.”
The Derry store, located on Springtown Road, will open seven days a week (Monday to Friday 7.00am-800pm, Saturday 8.00am-6.00pm and Sunday 1.00pm-6.00pm).
As well as the new stores, Screwfix’s website Screwfix.com, which receives over 1.5 million visitors per week, hosts thousands of products available to order and gives customers the ability to check stock at their local stores.
They can then use Screwfix’s Click & Collect service to purchase supplies online and then collect from store just five minutes later.
For people on the move, Screwfix has developed mobile and tablet apps which can be downloaded and are ideal for checking stock, making orders, browsing a catalogue and helping to plan equipment needed for a job.
