Funding totalling £146,000 has been announced for a range of community group projects across the Waterside area of Derry.
This funding will be used to improve community facilities providing new equipment for groups and repair work for a number of buildings.
It will also support additional community services such as cross community programmes, training programmes and social groups.
Announcing the funding, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said tackling deprivation in local communities could take on many forms, from improving community facilities to providing opportunities for local residents through training programmes and health and well-being activates.
He added the Waterside funding would enable local groups to enhance the services they provided for local residents.
He added: “The funding to Older People North West and Caw Community Playgroup will enable both groups to maintain and enhance their facilities. Hillcrest House will extend their service delivery by employing a Community Support Worker.
“Clooney Estate Residents Association will work alongside Bonds Street and Lincoln Court to plan a programme of activities to facilitate these communities to work together, sharing resources and learning for the benefit of all residents.”
The Minister revealed his Department was currently working with Clooney Estate Residents Association and Hillcrest House – Derryview to identify design teams in the first stage of their proposed capital projects which would extend and enhance their facilities.
He concluded: “This package of funding shows the continued commitment of my Department to the regeneration of the Waterside area.”
