Housing Minister Nelson McCausland has visited the site of a new £1.7million social housing scheme at Nelson Drive in the Waterside area of Derry.
The new homes, which are being built by Trinity Housing, will provide four apartments for active older people and 13 family homes all for applicants on the social housing waiting list.wa
The development is part funded by the Northern Ireland Executive through the Department for Social Development. Completion due for completion in March next year.
The new homes are being built to high energy efficiency levels.
All have also been designed to Secured by Design and Lifetime Homes standards, ensuring added security for tenants and flexibility of adaptation if required at a later date.
Speaking on site, Mr McCausland said the new homes were situated in an “excellent location” in an already well established area close to parkland and other local amenities.
He added: “I congratulate Trinity Housing for putting together such an inclusive housing mix and the Housing Executive for making best use of its surplus site.”
He concluded: “This is co-operative working at its very best and I look forward to seeing the finished scheme in due course.”
