A woman currently undergoing treatment for cancer has been left “badly traumatised” after her home was one of a number of houses broken into in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Creggan and Rosemount areas of the Derry.
Houses in Iniscarn Road, Cromore Gardens and Templemore Park areas were entered between 4.50am and 6.20am yesterday.
A handbag and keys were taken when a thief went into the bedroom of a cancer patient in Iniscarn Road.
Describing the incident as “disgusting,” Derry SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey said the woman and been left “badly traumatised” by her ordeal and appealed to anyone with information to pass it on to police or to him.
Mr Ramsey said: “I am making an urgent appeal to people in Derry if they have any information that will lead to identifying those responsible will they please give that to the police or pass that information on to me and I will, without breaking anyone’s confidence.”
A purse was taken from Cromore Gardens and, at this stage, nothing is thought to have been taken from the house at Templemore Park.
Detectives are investigating a possible link between the burglaries and are appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of any of these locations to contact them at CID in Strand Road on the non-emergency telephone number 101.
Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
