Funding of £44,000 to carry out a community consultation in Strabane has been announced by Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland.
The consultation will be used to identify the needs of the community and inform future projects in the Neighbourhood Renewal area.
Strabane and District Caring Services will deliver the project, training 30 local volunteers to survey around 660 households.
At the end of their training, the volunteers will receive an OCN Level 2 qualification in research skills, to enable them to carry out the survey through door to door visits and focus group work.
Gerard Harkin, manager Strabane and District Caring Services, said: “We are delighted to act as lead partner in the delivery of the community consultation in Strabane and would encourage all residents to fully participate in the survey.”
Announcing the funding Minister McCausland said the consultation would give local residents the opportunity to have their say in matters that are important to them.
He added: “There are no better people to ascertain the needs of the community than the local people themselves and I am pleased the 30 volunteers involved in this consultation will benefit from accredited training in research skills.
“The results will provide up to date evidence based information of the needs of local communities going forward to the Reform of Local Government and the formation of the new Council post March 2015.”
