The Bishop of Derry has taken part in talks which heard proposals on how to deal with the vocations crisis within the Catholic Church in Ireland.
Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown was among representatives from the Irish Catholic hierarchy which met with the Association of Catholic Priests.
Bishop Philip Boyce of Raphoe and Bishop Martin Drennan of Galway were also among the hierarchy which met Fr Brendan Hoban of Killala, Fr Dermot Lane of Dublin, Fr Gerry Alwill of Kilmore and Fr Sean McDonagh of the Columban Order.
Among the proposals believed to have been discussed were the ordination of married men of good standing to the priesthood (viri probati), the ordination of women deacons, and the recall of men who left the priesthood to marry.
