The boys and girls in the Children’s Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry have had their days brightened with the provision of a unique Fun Centre by the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Ward Six were happy to receive a mobile entertainment unit that incorporates a Nintendo Wii console, four Nintendo DSi’s, DVD/ Blu-ray player, internet access and a flat screen TV.
Cathy Grady, play specialist for the Children’s Ward, said Fun Centres could be used to distract a child in bed who was undergoing treatment and to motivate children who needed controlled exercise to aid their rehabilitation and could therefore speed their recovery time by building mobility.
She added: “We can’t thank Starlight enough for providing us with these unique units, which will significantly benefit poorly children.”
