A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted in Derry city centre last night.
It is understood the man sustained a serious head injury when he was attacked outside a bar at the lower end of Waterloo Street at around 9.00pm.
After being treated at the scene by paramedics, the man was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where is condition is described as critical.
A man in his 20s has been arrested and is being questioned by police on suspicion of causing grevious bodily harm.
A PSNI spokesperson asked anyone with information to contact detectives at Strand Road police station on the 101 non-emergency number.
