A “selfie” campaign aimed at ending rape and sexual violence in conflict has got the back of Foyle SDLP MP Mark Durkan.
Mr Durkan attended his week’s four-day Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict held in London, supporting the key message by Hollywood star (and United Nations special envoy) Angelina Jolie that “rape is not a women’s issue or a humanitarian issue – it is a global issue.”
According to the UN children’s agency, UNICEF, more than 150 million young girls and 73 million boys experience sexual violence every year, and children in conflict-affected countries are the most vulnerable.
