News from Apex Housing that the first phase of the social housing Development of 70 homes at Bradleys pass will be pre-allocated at the end of July/August has been welcomed by Cllr Tony Hassan, local Sinn Fein spokesperson on housing.
He also welcomed the news of plans for several new social housing developments.
Cllr Hassan described the announcement as “a good news story” for social housing provision in the greater Shantallow area and for the people on the homeless waiting list.
Apex will pre-allocate 23 social homes at the end of July and the remainder of the development in November.
Cllr Hassan said: “With the Fold housing scheme at Glenabbey almost finished it is good to see that Bradleys Pass on track.
“The numbers of people on the housing homeless waiting list is growing each week and these homes will go some way in alleviating the problem.
“I welcome the good news that Apex is planning for 200 new social homes in the Skeoge lands. And that Fold Housing is also looking at another development in the Glenabbey area.”
Cllr Hassan concluded: “The outlook is starting to look good for more social housing but I will still continue to lobby at every opportunity to ensure as there is still a big need for more new social homes.”
