A Derry man accused of directing terrorism has been refused bail at Belfast High Court.
Thomas Ashe Mellon, of Rathmor Road, Derry, is charged with membership of a proscribed organisation, namely the IRA, and directing its activities.
He denies committing the alleged offences between dates unknown and 5 June last.
Mellon was also refused bail when he appeared at Derry Magistrates Court earlier this week.
Police believe Mellon, who was arrested in north Belfast on Thursday of last week, held a prominent position within the IRA in Derry and as such planned and directed dissident republican activity.
The 38-year-old’s arrest followed the interception of a letter at Magheraberry Prison intended for dissident republican prisoners which police claimed was written by Mellon.
