A 24-years-old Derry man was released on bail when he appeared at the local Magistrates Court this morning charged in connection with the seizure of over £9,000 worth of drugs in the city at the weekend.
George Campbell, with an address on Northland Road, is charged with possessing a class A drug, namely cocaine, and a class B drug, namely cannabis.
He is also charged with having the drugs with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of class A and class B drugs.
A PSNI detective told the court the drugs, with an estimated street value of £9,100, were discovered during a search carried out at Campbell’s flat just after 6.00pm on Saturday last, 14 June.
The detective told the court that during police interviews the accused “went from” admitting to having the drugs for his own personal use to keeping them for a third party.
Objecting to bail, the police witness said Campbell had a gambling problem and police feared he would commit further offences to “feed” his habit.
Following an application from defence solicitor, Seamus Quigley, Resident Magistrate released Campbell on his own bail of £1,000 with two sureties of £500 each.
The accused was also ordered to reside with his parents, abide by an 8.00pm to 8.00am curfew and be electronically tagged.
He was also ordered not to use or be in possession of a mobile phone, not to enter any bookmakers premises and not to access online betting facilities.
He is due back in court again on 10 July next.
