Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has called for Derry to be designated as an enterprise zone.
Speaking after raising the matter in the Assembly, the Foyle MLA said:
“Invest NI is supporting a new integrated economic development plan for the north west. So I asked the minister if consideration would be given to supporting an enterprise zone for the area.
“Minister Simon Hamilton, who was answering on behalf of Arlene Foster, said there might be opportunities for additional enterprise zones.
“Derry is an obvious location for an enterprise zone given the legacy of underinvestment in the area for decades.”
Ms McLaughlin concluded: “Creating an enterprise zone in the city would help create much-needed employment and help foster a climate of entrepreneurship.”
