STRABANE BOMB AND GUN FINDS: “PENNY STILL NOT DROPPED WITH SMALL NUMBER” – DOHERTY

A-Police-cordon-158250The weapons and pipe-bomb finds in Strabane over recent days  has shown  the “penny has still not dropped” with a small number who seem to “still adhere to some form of deluded militarism devoid of political reality,” Sinn Fein West Tyrone MP Pat Doherty has said.

Mr Doherty was speaking after two handguns, pipe bombs and petrol bombs were seized by police investigating dissident republican activity in the town.

Mr Doherty said: “For whatever purpose these materials were being stored the reality is that, if they had been used, they would have only served to visit further hardship and disruption upon the local community in Strabane and would have not furthered the objectives of Irish republicanism one iota.”

Mr Doherty concluded: “The vast majority of Irish republicans, even those who may disagree with Sinn Féin politically, fully recognise these realities, but it is clear that the penny has still not dropped with a small number who seem to adhere to some form of deluded militarism.”
