A 50-year-old Derry man has been given a suspended jail sentence for claiming over £32,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.
Derry Crown Court heard John McGillian, from Seventree Road in the Lisnagelvin area of the Waterside, claimed Employment and Support Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £32,594 while failing to declare employment.
He was given an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years.
He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
