Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson and her European Parliament party colleague Matt Carthy have written to the Secretary General of the Health Department in Dublin requesting that they match funding already committed by the Department in the North for the establishment of a North West Health Innovation Corridor (NWHIC).
Ms Anderson said: “At my invitation the NWHIC was launched in May 2013 by Massachusetts State Senate President, Senator Therese Murray. NWHIC is a health innovation partnership between industry and health related statutory bodies with its focus on job creation on a cross border basis.
“The Corridor spans the Northwest Region from Sligo through Letterkenny to Derry and Coleraine.
“With members from across the region it is unquestionably a cross-border initiative. I have enlisted the support of my recently elected party colleague Matt Carthy MEP who represents the Donegal/Sligo section of the project to present a joint initiative to have the Department of Health in Dublin match funding already committed by the Assembly Department.”
Ms Anderson concluded: “I believe that this is a tangible example of a project where the Team Ireland approach of Sinn Féin MEPs can come into play.”
