Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has called for the immediate removal of advertising posters from phone boxes in Derry city centre.
The posters advertise “Northern Ireland Armed Forces Day 2014 – Invasion Ards” taking place this Saturday.Kelly said
Cllr Kelly said the posters were “insensitive” and called for them to be “removed immediately.”
He added: “We have received several complaints from members of the public and relatives who have lost loved ones at hands of the British army about this advertising.
“Nearly 370 people lost their lives at the hands of the British army during the conflict.
“And we all know only too well the history of their actions in this city.”
Cllr Kelly conclude: “I would also ask in future that careful thought is given to the location of such adverts and the sensitivities around them.”
