Dr Brian Burns and Padraig Canavan have been appointed to the Governing Body of North West Regional College (NWRC).
The Governing Body is responsible for securing the efficient and effective management of the college, determining its strategic direction, appointing its senior staff and ensuring that the College acts as a responsible employer.
Dr Burns is currently vice president of operations at Seagate Technology’s component manufacturing facility in Springtown.
He has responsibility for all aspects of business operations including research and development, strategy, finance and human resources.
Dr Burns has a proven track record in identifying the future needs and skill sets required to ensure the sustainability of the North West as an area of technological development.
Mr Canavan is the founder and former chief executive of Singularity, a software company employing 250 staff worldwide before its acquisition in 2011 by Californian software house Kofax.
A past president of Derry Chamber of Commerce, he is a current board member of InvestNI and Halo, the Northern Ireland Angel Investment Group.
Mr Canavan has a strong passion and vision for the future business and educational needs of the North West.
The appointments of Dr Burns and Mr Canavan will take effect on 01 August 2014 for a period of four years.
Announcing the appointmenrts, Employment and Learning Minister, Stephen Farry said he was confident that the appointment of Dr Burns and Mr Canavan would further enhance the skills and expertise of the NWRC Governing Body.
He added: “This will ensure that the College continues to develop an entrepreneurial approach to learning and takes forward an even more proactive role in supporting business and industry in the region.”
