Derry runner Keith Shiels still hopes to compete in tomorrow’s Youth Sport Omagh 10K road race despite suffering a setback injury.
The Foyle Valley athlete had targeted the event for his much-awaited comback from injury.
However the Creggan man, who had a phenomenal 2013 – the highlight of which was his spectacular victory in the Waterside Half Marathon (his first time competing over the 13.1 mile distance) – has suffered a setback and will leave make an 11th hour decision on whether to compete in Omagh.
He said: “It’s a lot better and I’m hoping to race but I’ll not take no chances.”
Stephen Duncan (Omagh Harriers) is the pre-race favourite and will be hoping to show show the same kind of form that has won him six races this year, one of which was was the Northern Ireland and Ulster Masters cross country title.
His posted 1.10.08 in New City Half Marathon in which he finished runner-up to Kenyan, the runaway winner of Derry’s Walled City Marathon earlier this month.
