The annual Service of Intercession for the Dead will take place in Derry City Cemetery tomorrow.
Families are asked to bring their own holy water with them to the cemetery for the blessing of the graves.
Those attending are asked to be the graves of their loved ones by 5.30pm for the service which will begin at 6.00pm.
At the appropriate time, Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown, will invite a representative of each family to sprinkle their family grave (and neighbouring grave if there is no one present).
There will be no holy water available in the cemetery.
Due to the anticipated large attendance, all able bodied people are asked to park their vehicles outside the cemetery grounds.
To assist with traffic flow, a one-way traffic system will be put in place.
Danny McCartney, head of cemetery and grounds maintenance services at Derry City Council, has urged the public to adhere to the new one way traffic system and to follow the advice of stewards that will be position around the Cemetery.
He said: “We would encourage the public to come early at least half an hour before the start of the service and to follow the signs and adhere to the advice given by the stewards.
“Every effort will be made to ensure the traffic flows freely on the day.”
He concluded: “We would encourage the public to be patient and to allow extra time on the day to get to the Intercession.”
