A commemoration ceremony will be held in Derry this week to remember two teenage IRA men killed by their own bomb 40 years ago.
David Russell (18), a Protestant, and Gerard Craig, both from the Shantallow area, were killed when a bomb intended for the Superfare store on Greenhaw Road exploded prematurely while they were carrying it the store’s car park on the afternoon of June 24, 1974.
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday evening at the republican memorial in front of the Shantallow shops.
Meanwhile, the annual commemoration to remember deceased Derry IRA members will take place in the City Cemetery on Sunday next, 29 June.
